Do Mankar CDA/ULV sprayers need special chemicals for weed spraying?

By 30th March 2026No Comments

There is some confusion on this topic. There are some controlled droplet application (CDA) systems on the market that require special formulations to work. The active ingredient in these special formulations will still often be glyphosate but it will be premixed with surfactants and prediluted to work with lower quality CDA sprayers.

Many CDA sprayers on the market can’t achieve the very low flow rates to spray neat glyphosate. This has led to the myth that you need expensive special glyphosate formulations to work with these sprayers. This is simply not true if you get a high quality CDA/ULV (ultra low volume) sprayer.

With the Mankar system you will simply spray undiluted glyphosate 480 or 360. You will use the same chemical you normally use in a backpack sprayer, but it’s simply sprayed neat. Mankar sprayers can be adjusted to give the correct flow application rate depending on what formulation of glyphosate you prefer. Simply look at the recommended application rate per hectare and set the dial on the Mankar accordingly.

There is no need for expensive special chemicals. Just use what you normally use but neat and less of it!
