The Stem Injector Kit consists of a handheld compression sprayer (7.6L or 4.7L), the Dosimeter and Stem Injector Needles.

The kit enables targeted and precise doses of herbicides such as glyphosate and pesticides to be directly injected into the stems of plants such as Japanese knotweed, Himalayan balsam and giant hogweed.
Injecting Japanese knotweed with weed killer has been proven to be an effective solution for controlling this highly invasive and fast growing plant. In a study carried out for the National Trust, a ‘cut and inject’ method was trialled and shown to have a ‘kill’ success rate of up to 95%. The benefits of using the injection method included:
- protecting the surrounding environment
- could be used near watercourses where foliar spraying is not permitted
- a reduction in herbicide used. While the concentration of glyphosate used in injecting is higher than used in foliar spraying, the highly targeted nature of the process means only a very small mount needs to be injected into the stems, reducing overall usage.

The Dosimeter allows for highly accurate and consistent volumes of fluid to be delivered with each squeeze of the trigger. Benefits of the Dosimeter include:
- Can be calibrated to deliver between 2ml and 25 ml of fluid per stroke
- The same fluid is delivered regardless of backpack pressure
- Improved safety for the operator as the spray is directly only at the plant
- Gives completely consistent dosing
- Reduced chemical waste
The needle set comes with two needles, a 25mm and a 60mm. They are made of copper and brass and have fittings to attach them to the Dosimeter. They can also be bought separately here.

The equipment is not as refined as its competitors. The applicator is not as ergonomic, so may not be as suitable at dealing with large infestations. It does feel quite cheap to hold. The dosimeter is clear as mud to adjust, and markings don’t start until 5mm, so very much a guessing game. Once you’ve worked out how to adjust it, you can fine tune it. A big part of me wishes I’d paid the extra for a stem master or injectordos , they do feel far more substantial in my opinion. The dosing hole in the needle is at the end, so easy to squirt product outside the stem if you’ve happened to go through. Being at the end, there’s the chance they will get blocked with stem tissue as well, so not ideal. In conclusion, it will do the job, but it doesn’t fill me with confidence, I would not recommend. Delivery was quick on the plus side.

Thank you so much for your review. We are always grateful to receive feedback and are sorry to hear that the product did not prove suitable.
We are sorry too that you experienced problems with the Dosimeter Valve.
We do sell this product for many applications and have yet to hear about any problems calibrating it. However, we appreciate this was an issue for you. The minimum dose is 2ml, so fully dialled down this is what you will get. There could conceivably be a bit of guesswork getting a dose between 2ml and 5ml but the dosing cup provided offers extra guidance.
With regards to the stem master and injectordos products you mention, they are very good bits of kit but at £360 or so, they are both double the price of our injector kit and can only be used for one purpose. The compression sprayer and the Dosimeter Valve can be used for other spray applications. As such we believe our product does offer excellent value for money.
In addition, the injector kit itself (without the compression sprayer) can be attached to pretty much any compression sprayer (it does not have to be one of ours). We find that this flexibility is very useful to many customers as it increases the versatility of a bit of kit they already own. And, it is less than a third of the price of the other brands.
So, if you are exclusively stem injecting all day everyday then yes, perhaps the more expensive specialist bits of kit are worth the extra expense. But if you want a good bit of kit that will turn your existing compression sprayer into a stem injector and ‘do the job’ and is at an affordable price point then our kit is a good choice.
